Noosa Jazz Festival history and trivia
The Noosa Jazz Festival was started in a single restaurant by Melbourne jazz icon Frank Johnson and Richard Stevens to celebrate the beginning of springtime in Australia. Jazz Queensland says that Johnson and Stevens recognised that hotels and restaurants would benefit from “a multiple day celebration of Jazz” and that it would bring tourists to the area who are looking to escape winter in their own area.
Today, the festival is Noosa’s second longest-running event. As pointed out by Seasons of the Sun, “The Festival Village at Noosa Lions Park is the heart of the Noosa Jazz Festival and plays host to mainstage concerts, masterclasses, food and market stalls.”
The acclaimed festival now attracts performers from other genres such as blues, swing and funk.
